32 year old footballer Alvaro Saborio sustained a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot. Unfortunately for the Ticos starter, this devastating news means he will be out of the World Cup this summer. Saborio suffered the injury during morning training and was escorted off the field immediately upon becoming injured.
As a result of his injury Saborio may need surgery depending on the injury’s severity. This leaves a 6-12 week recovery window, causing Saborio to miss the World Cup this year. Saborio has appeared 93 times and has scored 32 international goals thus far, making this a heavy loss to the team.
